URGENT NOTICE TO SECTION 8 APPLICANTS AND THOSE ON THE SECTION 8 WAITING LIST
The Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA) learned on October 14, 2014 that its web site had been compromised. Applicants for Section 8 housing allowances were falsely asked to provide a personal credit card number to cover the cost of a credit check of $20.00 per month. This was a fraudulent attempt to secure personal credit card information and is not now and never has been a requirement of the Housing Authority. The web site has been corrected and all appropriate law enforcement and other agencies have been informed of the breach.
None of the personal information for Section 8 or Public Housing applicants or clients on the VHA data servers has been compromised. Only those individuals who followed the false link appearing on the web site and entered credit card information are affected.
If any Section 8 applicant or member of your family has provided credit card information as a result of the fraudulent request, please contact VHA at 360-993-9563. Also, please contact your credit card provider to cancel or protect your card. You are also encouraged to file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's office and read their information on identity theft.
If you have already applied for a housing program, please be certain that we always have your current mailing address. Mail returned by the Post Office will cause your name to be removed from the waitlist. You can print our Waitlist Update form here. If you want information about your previous application, please visit our Applicant Portal.
